Experience the Total Solar Eclipse
at Monroe County Airport!
A Once-in-a-Lifetime Celestial Event in Bloomington, Indiana
On Monday, April 8, 2024, a remarkable event will grace the skies of North America: a total solar eclipse that will travel from Texas to Maine. Bloomington, Indiana, finds itself in a privileged position, being directly in the center of the path of totality. This makes our city, and especially the Monroe County Airport, one of the best eclipse viewing locations in the world.
The eclipse promises a surreal experience. At approximately 3:04 PM EST, the sun will be obscured for a duration of about four minutes and two seconds, plunging the day into an ephemeral twilight. Imagine witnessing the sun becoming almost completely dark in the middle of the day!
Fly In for the Eclipse - A Celestial Spectacle Awaits!
Considering the significance of this event, Monroe County Airport is gearing up to offer aviation enthusiasts and sky-watchers the perfect vantage point. However, to ensure a smooth experience for all, we have some guidelines:
-
Reservations Required: Given the expected influx of visitors, all aircraft planning to be at the Monroe County Airport for the solar eclipse must have a reservation with one of our two Fixed Base Operators (FBOs): BMG Jet Center or Cook FBO. This reservation system will be in effect for the 24-hour period leading up to the eclipse.
-
Planning Ahead: Even if you intend to arrive days before the eclipse, a reservation is still necessary. This helps us manage parking space efficiently and ensures that every guest has a spot.
-
How to Reserve: To secure your reservation, please reach out to either BMG Jet Center or Cook FBO (links provided) and make the necessary arrangements.
